In the Nigerian music industry, it’s no secret that women have to work twice as hard as men to be thought half as good. The Nigerian feminism community has always had a war tussle with female celebrities like Tiwa savage and Dj cuppy because they openly denounced feminism. This brought about the birth of Femme– a female-oriented platform seeking to empower women in music.
The founder of Femme, Ayomide Dokunmu built this platform to inspire young women to forget about sexism in the entertainment industry. Women are rather encouraged to create a solution that will change things and bring a balance in the industry.
With the aim of building a community for women in Africa’s boom music industry, Femme is organizing an event for the 2019 women’s month celebration where female talents in the music industry will be recognized and upcoming female artist can gain exposure.
After a successful platform lunch in December 2018, Femme is organizing yet another enticing display of female music talents all in celebration of women’s history month. This event will be held on the 24th of March at the African Artists Foundation. The lineup of female artist includes Dami Oniru, Solis and Good Girl La. We will also be expecting Tems who is also a fast rising talent in the African music industry.
The theme for this year’s event will be ‘Balance for Better’ as Femme opens up her platform to embrace more women and encourage them to balance well in the industry without giving in to compromise. According to the founder, she hopes for a balance for better for women in the music industry. These ladies should also be recognized for the things that the men are doing.
This year’s event will expose the community more and will elevate the growth of the platform as well as empower women who are consistently underserved in the industry.
