Michael Baiye who is better known by his stage name “Jbwai” was born on September 28 1993. He is a Toronto based Cameroonian musician, singer, songwriter and record producer signed with Don Music Group. Jbwai has created a unique style of Afrobeat / Afrofusion sound with major collaborations with other top artists in the game.
This artist who is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, made his first venture into music when he was 24. Now at 26, he has released several tracks such as Come Close featuring Tropicoboy and Tyke, ONA ft Tropicoboy, Holiday (single) and Imani which is his most recent single. Jbwai admits that of the most challenges he has faced in his early days as a musician, deciding whether to be a singer or a rapper was the toughest decisions he had to make. He concedes he was part of a team and that his challenges were lessened from the help they gave each other while helping him grow at the same time.
He mentions Runtown as the source of his inspiration and gives credit to Nigerian Artists who originated Afropop and his older colleagues who helped him understand and master the creation of Afropop. As all artists in the music industry, he hopes that he would become a “mainstream artist and show the world his music”.
On April 17, 2020, he released a track “Ona”, an afrobeat style track which talks about a girl he met in a party and his affection towards her. This track actually relates to most women since they are very likely to be in the same wavelength as the girl he sings about. This girl plays hard to get at first she did not want to dance or party-but eventually, she opens up and starts having fun. I am sure you all have been through this at least once in your life. It takes courage (or a few shots) before you start to forget all your insecurities and problems and start dancing and having fun. As long as you are out to enjoy yourselves then nothing else matters and you should live in that moment and enjoy one another’s company.
“There are only two days a year that nothing can be done. One is called yesterday and the other is called tomorrow, so today is the right day to love, to believe, to do and to mostly live.”
